Emergency+ Smartphone App

More than 65 per cent of calls to Triple Zero (000) are made from mobile phones. Sometimes, callers don't know their exact location – they might be on a long stretch of road with no familiar landmarks, or they may simply be unaware of the name of the street they are on. Obviously, the location of the caller is a critical piece of information required by emergency call-takers.

The free Emergency+ smartphone app gives callers the ability to verbally provide emergency operators with their location, as determined by the GPS functionality built-in to their smartphone. It displays latitude and longitude coordinates, a street address if available, and a map image.

The app also includes numbers for the State Emergency Service, Police Assistance Line, Health Direct Australia and Crime Stoppers, for non-emergency calls.

The Emergency+ app has been developed by the National Triple Zero Awareness Work Group which is made up from emergency services representatives from across Australia.

It is available free of charge, for iOS devices through the Apple App Store https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/emergency-+/id691814685?mt=8 and for Android devices through the Google Play Store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.threesixtyentertainment.nesn
